Motorola might release a 5G Moto Mod with a new flagship phone

Motorola, under the ownership of Lenovo, may be releasing a 5G Moto Mod that adds an unsightly antenna lip to the back of the phone, as spotted by XDA-Developers. Motorola is due for a new leading device, and so the Moto Z3 Play appears to be on the way with specs befitting a midrange Android 8.1 Oreo phone.
Some of the leaked specs include a Snapdragon 636 processor with 4GB of RAM, a 3,000mAh battery, 6-inch 18:9 FHD+ AMOLED display, dual cameras on the back, and microSD card support with 32GB or 64GB built-in storage options.

For reference, Moto Mods aren’t a new development for Motorola phones — they’ve been around for three device generations — but they haven’t really seen niche success with Moto phone users. However, a 5G mod may be enough to convince a few, and it has been teased by Motorola before. For a 5G Moto Mod to even work, you’d need a network that supports it. In the current telecommunications market, 5G isn’t even available in most areas (if anywhere at all), so even if the mod goes on sale, it’s hard to say if it’ll actually boost your device’s connection speeds, depending on where you travel.
